i have decided to start my own little project to do over the christmas holidays. i have decided to make a 3D model of a sword using all the skills i have learnt at college using 3DS Max, during this time i will post screenshots of my progress on my blog. as you can see i have already started. at the moment i am concentrating on the thinness of the blade.

Making a human walk
Today we were asked to animate a human model(done by tutor) walk in 3DS max, after a good half hour I succeed on my first try however at the end I tried to make the model do a handstand which as you can see in the video didn't go too well(apologies to the model for breaking his back) but this is only the basic of animation hopefully I will conquer this technique.

reflection on my 3D Model
- I could have improved the colour scheme used for the vehicle as i don't think it shows the potentional
- i could have improved on my texture skills as i didn't do that good of a job
- i think that the part that did not go well was creating windows and doors
- i completed this model in 6 hours

Future vehicle

We were given the brief to design a futuristic vehicle the above 4 images are renders of my final result which was done in 3DS max. The vehicle has multiple functions it has a propeller at the rear so it can manoeuvre it self above and under water, it can of course drive on land but can also fly when the tyres rotate at a 90degree angle(inspired by back to the future) the vehicles front is pointed like a dolphin so it is streamlined and aero dynamic also if it was to dive into water straight from the air it could do so with speed. On the top you can see a fin like shape I did this to give it more of aqua look

3d max first design
today I had a try at making a character from the standard primitive shapes in 3D Max overall it was fun I created the body using various shapes from box to sphere although you can't see properly due to the rendered image I created a jet pack for my character, I also gave it a ninja type staff in one hand where as in the other hand I created a Tron Evolution like blade/disk I also added some 3D text on the chest and gave him a red hat

API
I learnt about API which Is basically a translator for a computer. A computer cant view 3D images so the 3D image is sent through the API which then breaks it down into binary(computer language) which basically takes coardinates of the corners, edges etc, it is then sent to something we call a pipeline which has 6 processes one being breaking the image into binary, then it uses the light factor which after 3D is converted to 2D and at the end where the computer is viewing a bunch of numbers(binary) we are seeing a 2D image. Open GL and direct 3D are a few examples of API. (that's my brief understanding)
